Went to the Dresden Dolls Halloween concert, and it was beyond amazing. The Troxy is a great venue. Spacious enough, it had both standing area and seated balconies, which I found very nice for people less able to stand for four hours. The prices at the bar were ridiculous, except for a concert venue that's standard so I can't really blame them. In the toilets and on the screens before the gig they advertise the Ask for Angela scheme which is awesome (if you are feeling threatened in any way, ask a member of the staff for 'Angela' and they're gonna help you exit safely and discretely). And then the gig itself - volume was beyond loud, I could feel my ribs reverberating to the drummer's sticks flying over his drums. For a punk rock/dark cabaret concert it was perfect. And such dramatic (almost frenetic) lighting! Timed to the music to the millisecond, it seemed. Very impressive. I also appreciated the members of the staff distributing free water bottles to the crowd in the pit, it was a life-saver. All staff was perfectly polite and helpful. Really great venue!
Really good venue. Sat in the circle blocks and the I could see the whole stage. The place was clean and the staff were friendly. Everything was marked out well so you knew where you were going. Would definitely recommend going to the venue. Comfortable and had great sound quality.
A much reincarnated former 1930's Art Deco ‘mega-cinema' and local landmark now ventures as an event-cum-concert venue.. with mixed results. The sympathetic restoration and configuration of this evocative and cavernous space is impressive but apparently recurrent ‘organisational issues' (on occasion) bedevil the venue
Really loved this as a venue, the art deco interior just puts a smile on your face and the view from the circle seats towards the stage is completely unimpeded. Hope to see more gigs here.
Wonderful art deco space. Great acoustics and lighting. Seats are just a tad too small and close together to be comfortable for 6 footers!
